this & that

Well, my Cardinals have made it to the league play offs. I say "my Cardinals" for, if there is any pro sport team I follow, it is the Cardinals. I grew up with them, with Harry Cary announcing their games. His "Holy Cow, What A Ball Game" rinning from the radio on the front porch in an indelible part of my childhood. So, when Augie Busch the whatever fired him, I swore off of Anhauser Busch products for life. Phttttbbb to Augie!

But, as you know, or should, for those of us who live in the southeast, there is no sport but Southeast Conference(SEC)college football. Anything else is a side bar in the newspaper. If pinned down, I would have to admit to favoring the University of Alabama. After all, I sent much more money there than to Auburn. But, still, i follow that sport mostly in the newspapers, on on the locan TV news sports spot. If one of them is playing on TV in the evening, I'll probably watch, but if it's an afternoon game, I usually am working outside on the place.

This weekend Dr. Mom is in Pittsburg, PA at a meeting. She went up yesterday AM and will be home Tues eve. I'm sure glad the taxpayers have lots of money. Since today is a state holiday (Columbus Day, you know that Italian guy, working for the Queen of Spain, who claimed to have discovered the western contients.) Of course, we all know that our ancesters were here long before he, or the Vikings, ever even thought of sailing west from Europe. As Will Rogers once told the Daughters of the Mayflower, our ancestors met the boat.

Tomorrow morning I leave for our semi-annual insurance consortium meeting. This time it's in DisneyWorld. I'll take reasonable orders for goodies, but they have to be packable in my suitcase.

Otherwise, things go on as usual down here.

Boats and floating

Some of our ancestors met the boat. The others were on it (Richard Warren: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~amcolan/Bartlett/bartlett.html )

Meeting the Boat

I'm not sure about being on the boat but some of our ancestor's cousins met it.

Actually, the Staffords were in Virginia before that rickety little Mayflower ever set sail.
